Matt Karmil - Will

Release Date: 27 April 2018

Label: Smalltown Supersound

"Karmil’s fourth album, Will, is released on the Norwegian Smalltown Supersound label – the home of Lindstrøm among others. Even more than before Matt has managed to combine his love of the graceful forward motion of minimal techno beats with the deeply granular textures and meditative chambers of reverb and delay. Mastered by the careful hand of Rashad Becker at the legendary Dubplates & Mastering plant, this driverless vehicle takes bumps and curves with ease, but passes through enough scuzzy neighbourhoods to make the journey more memorable.

Before you get to the long ambient closing track, ‘Maffé’, Will contains its share of muted bangers like ‘Morals’ and ‘Can’t Find It (The House Sound)’. While these would vibrate well on the dancefloor, the experience for Matt is primarily a private domestic one. ‘I like to try to create a room to visit, and while it's nice to have details and look out the window occasionally, the fundamental is the room/environment itself – my personal enjoyment of music away from the club is often centred around long form and ambient works.’"

Paide & Fischerle presents Doubts 2

Release Date: 4 April 2018

Label: Pawlacz Perski

"Doubts is a compilation, whose guiding principle is searching for new solutions for a selected musical genre. To this end, artists and music producers unrelated to the particular music genre are invited to participate in the compilation. In the first part of Doubts, the main topic was dub techno. The second edition of Doubts is an attempt to reinterpret Chicago Footwork and the pace of 160 BPM. As a result, works were created loosely referring to selected formal aspects of footwork (Ceglarek & Dybała, Maciej Maciągowski, Hubert Zemler), or radically atomizing its structure (Freeze, Genetics & Windsurfing, Micromelancolié), and in some cases works arisen that have chosen the 160 BPM rate as the starting point while placing it in dub (Sarmacja), techno (Mech) and psychedelia (Mchy i Porosty). Doubts vol. 2 is an attempt to answer the question whether since 2012 and the first Polish footwork compilation Ghosts Traxx (which was co-created by one of Doubts curators - Paweł Paide Dunajko), there is a chance to repeat this creative situation, while refreshing and exploring the framework of the genre anew."

Michel Lauriola - No Balance EP

Release Date: 26 March 2018

Label: Animal Farm

"Michel Lauriola returns to Animal Farm Records after making his European debut with us in Glasgow last year. ’No Balance’, his latest EP for the label, shows why he continues to flourish in the South American scene - with a European tour already under his belt and an always prolific studio output.

Title track ‘No Balance’ is a typically well crafted roller from Lauriola, with woozy production details & an air of layered hypnotism - a supremely effective textural workout. ‘Zero Humility’ boasts a tight percussive groove, with cacophonous auras keeping things firmly steeped in the darkness.

‘Close To Parabola’ sees him stepping into the peak time zone with, again, dense production - but a powerfully crafted low end. Unnerving synth tones and tense breakdowns make this the obvious selection for heavy ‘floor damage."

1. No Balance 06:34

Myako - White Tiger

Release Date: 29 January 2018

Label: Nona

"Myako, the phenomenon rising at a blazing speed, continues her epic course with the release of the White Tiger EP.

Known for her eclecticism behind the turntables and for the flavor of her cosmic and dancehall breaked sets ranging between techno and UK noisy, this free animal in the jungle of French techno scene again establishes her skills not only as a skillful DJane, but also a genuinely sophisticated producer.

Her journey started in Germany in booth alongside Dirk Leyers, Dasha Rush, and Auddie. Beautiful collaborations sparked by beautiful encounter would follow: a first disc on the Viennese label Comfortzone, another on Second Record, 13 loops signed on Ronde label, and a track on our precious Nona "Family Matter", a compilation of international artist and friends of Bastl Instruments – which has also hosted Myako in their residency programme during 2017."

Leiras - A Prison Of Predictions

Release Date: 08 Dec 2017 (vinyl), 22 January 2018 (digital)

Label: Ownlife

Discogs

"Spoilers from the imminent present. Like being trapped within the expectations that society puts on you. Another predictable animal; simple utensil in the hands of those that get ahead of what will befall. The best way to predict the future is to create it. On their way.

After overcoming our species' loss of intuition, after walking in circles, after coming back to learn how to find our bearings. It is time to create your own pathway. Longer, uncertain, sometimes erratic, for sure it will be worth it.

A Prison Of Predictions is the first LP from the Ownlife label (excepting SELD series, focused in pressing back gems from two decades ago) and also by the person behind it. Leiras.

On it, the producer showcases a compendium featuring the characteristic sound of the platform, pushing ahead cyclical techno together with tracks that evoke the persistence of remembrance. Echoing the preterit sound of Sandwell District and renewed sound formulas from almost two decades of UK electronica. Ambient brush strokes outline soundscapes surrounded by analogue sounds that share space with more direct and snappy songs. A scape on the frenetic side of electronica with an IDM-leaning end closes the equation.

Substantiating his versatility as a producer with the label's previous 10 titles and undoubtedly confirmed on this record, Leiras offers a consequent closing for the first stage of Ownlife, which finishes on this point in order to look for new sound structures for the next transmissions.

This LP has been created in Berlin during the last months using mixed recording techniques with the purpose of conceiving a narrative thread that gives coherence to the release; without doubt an inflection point in Leiras' discography"

Microtrauma - Soñar

Release Date: 12 January 2018

Label: Einmusika Recordings

Discogs

"A silky smooth intro, peaceful seconds, before the restless dream starts. Wide open and mysterious deep that is “Soñar“ the title track of Microtrauma’s first longplayer. Like a trip through the universe - “Vona 1.2“ creates different pictures rushing by. Get on the dancefloor with “Filamenta“ and breath deeply while listening to “5254“. The whole longplayer is like an emotional carrousel. From silky smooth beats to bass-loated tracks and foreign noises. “I Am Bient“ comes so dark and cold - you are paralysed, just to get back moving and dreaming the next moment. The longplayer combines techno and wave, house, pop and alien instrumentals. It’s a real refreshment for your ears. You will find peace in “Undercurrent“, face your fears in “Crudo“ and find your way with “Haamit“.

Time to wake up and see the stars from our perspective with “Reise Von Ker“."
