Two Tail & Quiett - Fountains

Release Date: 28 July 2017

Label: Hush Hush Records

"Hush Hush goes for an emotional dive into warm, woozy, vocal-laced disco/house territory with 'Fountains,' a confident 3-track collaboration between Manchester, UK-based DJ/producer Two Tail (Ted Scoltock) and Denver-based producer/vocalist combo Quiett (Sam Leffers and Kevin Hake), due out digitally and on cassette July 28th.

The two members of Quiett originally connected over a decade ago as high school classmates and budding musicians in Fort Wayne, Indiana. While earlier projects from the pair showcased an evolving fusion of Sam’s love for hip-hop and jazz with Kevin's early forays in emo, folk, and Americana, their re-location to Denver and launch of the Quiett name signals a confident step forward into an effortlessly smooth and romantic vocal house sound. Their first official release finds them teaming up with Two Tail, the emerging 20 year-old DJ, producer, and edit maestro quickly making a name for himself in the underground disco and house community. Together, they’ve seamlessly created a loving and nostalgic ode to a melodramatic dancefloor.

Hake's vocals showcase a whispery, restrained style that draws the listener close. Leffers and Scoltock share production duties, crafting lush and pulsing instrumentals filled with the kind of suitcase electric pianos, soaring saxophone leads and pillowy atmospherics you'd expect from a late 70s lounge record. Over the release’s three standout original cuts, Two Tail and Quiett consistently display a mature, sophisticated, in-the-pocket groove, enhanced with a touch of laid-back stoicism.

All three musicians are part of the Outsourced Collective, a group founded by Scoltock and fellow Manchester native Aleks Zurawski that brings together a diverse range of blossoming international artists creating emotional, restrained sounds free of strict genre confines. This all-embracing mentality finds a kindred spirit within the labor-of-love, DIY ethos of Seattle’s Hush Hush Records."

Benncart - Excursions

Release Date: 01 May 2014

Label: 5:55

Discogs

Nearly two years after his last offering, the chillwave-infused "I Feed on Hopes EP", Benncart returns with a brand new mini-album. The eclectic "Excursions" is made up of 9 tracks, which explore different spectra of styles, from leftfield hip-hop to bass music or house. Despite the wide range of gengres present, "Excursions" tends not to sound incohisive, as the tracks find their common denominators - calm, laidback melodies, warm synths and loads of crackling vinyl samples. Benncart's fondness of nostalgic musical past balances well with his fascination of what's modern, bridging the gap between the two (the housey lead single "Life of  Wonders" being a prime example). While combining experimentation with melodic songwriting the producer strived to avoid replicating the sound pallettes of myriad bedroom beatmakers, going for a style which he could call his own. Benncart enlisted two quests on the mini-lp - Cruz, a Wrocław mc known for his mind bending work with exceptional producer Zaspał, and Joannapple, vocalist from the Poznań-based band Donut.

The main concept behind "Excursions", as the author points out, is travelling (and it's benefits) - be it spending hours upon hours in trains, buses and planes; or the kind that do not require a ticket, albeit brings the traveller closer to the oneself.

Hostage - Generous

Release Date: 17 July 2013

Label: Origami Sound

Hostage sidesteps from his usual rave extravaganza to make room for a new harvest of tamer, softer, lighter beats that enrich the healing and slightly haunting house feel of his new 4-track EP, Generous.

The Scotsman with the tremendous sound takes a well-deserved musical breather befitting the late hours of a summer evening - but as Hostage is tireless, Generous feels like a steady power walk that quickly transforms into a frantic, techno-fueled gallop throughout its 4 tracks.

His usual crisp yet sultry sound is nevertheless there, in the form of swelling garage grooves and elegant percussion. From the airy laughter of the wind god Zephyrus to the imperative Shine to the nostalgic invocation in Pickle, all the vocal samples are skilfully tailored into trance-inducing repetitions. A moody yet very fresh and danceable feat from Hostage, one to both indulge in and lounge on.

1. Zephyrus 04:28

2. Tuning Haze 03:46

Release Date: February 2013

Label: Freakyhouse

Discogs

Chicago- and acid house dominates our ninth netlabel release. To cut straight to the chase, our first track is from Grema, who delivers the usual and expected high quality stuff. A piece of dynamic, dancefloor killer, followed by Vinyluser’s also rocking acid fly. Latter’s title is an acronym, with the following meaning: That Magic From Yesterday Is Gone. More than 5 minutes of music primarily made up of Roland Juno 60 sounds and with the help of a Doepfer Modular. Gnork, who already has a vinyl release in his past, aiming for a smoother style: Skysurfin is a nice game with pads, backed by a variety of deep, buzzin basslines. The fourth one, titled Our Future got out from the workshop of Route 8. Another gem of Chicago house, recorded by the artist on a tape. We are pretty sure that the works of Route 8 soon will see a vinyl cut. The slow and charming final track comes from the Farbwechsel label owner duet, Silf. If we wrote this teaser for an online record shop, something like this would come: essential release, must-have!

Tracklist:

01. Grema – Sabada

02. Vinyluser – TMFYIG

03. Gnork – Skysurfin

04. Route 8 – Our future
