Phattcut - Cosmic Hand EP

I heard about Phattcut in 2014 for the first time thanks to 5:55 netlabel. I still like to listen to the raices ep. I posted about this material on my blog. Next i/o vert last year but it was not my style.
Few days ago Phattcut self released his new EP called Cosmic Hand. It starts quite slowly with weird chords and glitchy beats in Hadrons, then we have Elephant Walk with amazing ethnic percussions and flutes. My favourite track Etna is a trip from downtempo to deep house music. It was a cooperation with Essex. I also recommend his album 'Dualizm' which was released in a digibook with a special story written to his music. I'd really like to hear a whole material like 'Etna'. It remainded me of Cotton Claws 'Elusive' EP which I bought last year from Cascade Records bandcamp page.
Kalimfa slows down for a moment just to drop dubstep like drums onto these ambient, orchestral bells (or whatever they are) used in the song. In Kambo we can hear again some ethnic broken beats with flutes and vocals that sounds like taken straight from the hearth of Africa.

Highly recommended. I hope we will see a physical version soon.

Che Ramirez aka 4Sight grew up in a very musical household. Born in Ireland, now living in Philadelphia via San Francisco, his grandfather, the Latin-American composer Emilio Ramirez Garcia, instilled a lifelong musical passion throughout the family, with jazz, salsa, rock and classical being practised and performed around him from an early age as well as access to a wide variety of instruments. 

An eclectic taste developed naturally… “My daily digest of music when i was around 9 years old was Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Nine Inch Nails, DJ Shadow, Tool, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy among others” 

His passion for jazz took him to study at the University of the Arts in PA, and the seed of 4Sight’s musical identity were sewn when he began to combine his jazz guitar playing with inspirations from the LA beat scene, and Brainfeeder’s output in particular. 

“Rather than trying to make something that would be true to a tradition like jazz, it was almost like I had the ability to mould my own unique sound and mood. I felt as though i was channelling an ultra-creative part of my mind that I had never tapped into before. This creative pocket is what is fanned out over 7 tracks that make up the EP. It 's an embodiment of me branching out musically and artistically and taking what I know in different directions, hence the name Dendritic: Having a branched out form resembling a tree"

Various - The Art of Falling Raindrops

As a child I believed two things. I believed that if I ran in the rain fast enough, the raindrops would not hit me, and that the raindrops fall to the ground to the beat of music. Whether you believe it or not, I forgot about it for two decades, until one rainy day I listened to the fourth instalment of GoodNetlabels Compilation… Moved by the music, and reminded of these two childhood memories, I came up with the title for the compilation, one that evokes the atmosphere of that innocent time.

So how do raindrops fall, then? Can we call it art? Reason dictates that they fall down as the wind allows them to fall, but perhaps such an adult perspective is not the best one here, and perhaps it is better to use our imagination the way the artists who contributed to this outstanding compilation did?

Tx: Two minutes to self-organise, and settle into a no-rush, intricate pattern, clicking around a relentlessly filtered pad chord. Delayed opening, minimalistic treatment, but a true reward to be had, once “Tx” blossoms, before slowly fading away into half-entropy.

Rampjaar: Shimmering arpeggios penetrate the opening cinematic darkness, to form beautiful shapes of meaning. Celebrating duality, the honest “Rampjaar” is a throwback to years past, and simpler, optimistic times. A feeling of unresolvedness lingers on.

Tlnv: Once a tape recorded from TV, lost and found, digitally remastered. Shimmering city lights, tracing parallel lines far and away into  vanishing points left and right of this street corner. Still, against the city’s pretend bustle at dusk, a dream of water and tall trees. Time-lapse. Trust escapism. Everything will be fine.

Ita: The stray harmony of “Ita” finds itself amidst piles of lost chords, spare parts for beats, and still-cycling bass machines. It sets out to rebuild in full, growing more confident by the minute. There is ingenuity here, grace, and a real craving for optimism, lushness marching on, leaving a trail of pulsing particles. This is everything but an end. Press play again.

The IDMf netlabel proudly presents Of Storybook and Sound by RFJ, a five track EP that cleverly mixes minimalism and IDM with glitchy breakbeat rhythms and layers of darkness and mystery that seem to have characters all their own. 

A girl’s voice can be heard in the opening track, her words echoing as she sees a light and exclaims “maybe they can help us”. The listener is cleverly kept at bay from the origin of such a story and is instead pushed by the music to create their own imagery and their own story. The girl, sometimes nearby, sometimes far away, continues to narrate throughout. Her voice cuts up, repeats and turns into mountainous echoes that continue to build over rolling glitchy drums and synths that crunch and glide. 

Of Storybook and Sound can be both creepy and comforting at the same time, both homely and exotic, and with a strong sense of dynamic it stops and starts to make you listen. At points it makes you wonder what you’re really hearing, it makes you wonder what’s happening, but it doesn’t leave you frustrated like a cryptic puzzle or an unsolved mystery. of Storybook and Sound inflames the imagination and paints so many different pictures all at once. 

In a "A Version Of Me", RFJ takes us on a trip that is just as personal and as thought provoking as this release. Talking us through his own personal journey into darkness and back into light culminating in these tracks as an aural archive of that journey.

Gem Drops Three' is the latest installment of our flagship compilation series, and since we’ve evolved considerably as a crew, it’s only natural that our celebrated collection takes on a new form as well. The Gem Drops series began as a way for us to do two things: connect with artists we love, and then draw lines between each other until we’d encircled everybody enough for our listeners to get the picture. Curated by label founder Aaron Meola, each volume was a snapshot of that time and place for us as musicians and as friends. The reach of those first two editions opened our eyes to the power of our community and the artists we care about. 

We’re now excited to bring Gem Drops to an even wider audience, especially because we are able to offer our release on vinyl for the first time, a dream realized thanks to our new partnership with Seattle’s Fin Records. For this installment we’ve narrowed the focus a bit, selecting just six tracks from the nearest and dearest within DG, most of who are slated to release material for us down the line. These tracks showcase the diversity of styles we’ve become known for, taking the temperature of a crew headed for many new things in 2013. For this particular release we’re covering the following genres: gritty forest beat, maximalist shuttle launch, underground lake narrative, late-night loner keyboard, futuristic hip hop, and emo-juke.
